Tax Day Deadline Fast Approaching

SAN ANGELO, TX – The last day to file federal taxes is here – unless you live in Texas.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the IRS announced it would allow all Americans an extra month to file their returns -- thus moving the deadline to Monday, May 17th.

But then Texas was struck with a once-in-a-lifetime snowstorm and the IRS granted another extension for citizens of this state. The new deadline was set for Tuesday, June 15th.

If an affected taxpayer receives a late filing or late payment penalty notice from the IRS that has an original or extended filing, payment, or deposit due date that falls within the postponement period, the taxpayer should call the telephone number on the notice to have the IRS abate the penalty.

The new deadline will also impact quarterly estimated income tax payments that would typically be due by April 15th and quarterly payroll and excise tax returns that are due on April 30th.
