Long Awaited Reconstruction of Southwest Blvd. Begins Monday

SAN ANGELO, TX – Construction on the Southwest Boulevard Project is set to begin Monday, April 12, 2021 according to the City of San Angelo. Reece Albert Inc. is the contractor for the project.

The Southwest Boulevard Project consists of two phases:

Phase A will begin at Twin Mountain Drive and end at Rockbrook Drive. Phase A consists of a mill and overlay, full reconstruction at the Southland-Southwest intersection and the railroad crossing near Lamar Elementary, and sidewalk and pedestrian improvements from Twin Mountain Drive to Dominion Ridge Drive.

Phase B will begin at Rockbrook Drive and end by Cavender’s at the Houston Harte Expressway frontage road. Phase B consists of a mill and overlay from Rockbrook Drive to Sherwood Way. There are three areas of full reconstruction: Sherwood Way to Houston Harte Frontage Road, the low water crossing adjacent to Hobby Lobby, and the Sunset Boulevard intersection. The low water crossing adjacent to McDonald’s will also be improved. These improvements include installation of larger conveyance structures underneath the roadway, as well as the total crossing being raised 2 to 2.5 feet.

Total project cost: $5,925,288.67

Timeline: Approximately 2.5 years

This project is part of the 10-year, $80-million Capital Improvement Plan for street rehabilitation/reconstruction approved by City Council in 2015. The need and timing of this rehabilitation project was based on the Fugro study completed in 2015. Pavement condition index scores, road classification, average daily traffic and opinions of probable costs based on funding availability were used to determine the project timing within the plan.

Somebody check my math here..... So, if this project takes 2.5 years to complete, at nearly 6 million dollars to pay for it, and there is a 10 year project to rebuild streets with a total of 80 million tagged for doing that, somebody explain this to me........
2.5 years to do 1 street at 6 million, means that in the life of that 10 year period, 4 additional streets could be built for a total cost of roughly 24 million dollars. So, that other 56 million dollars that is left after that 10 year period, who's bank account does that money go into ? Mr Suave City Manager ? City Council members ? Mayor ?........ Hmmmmmmmmmm
