Mayor Gunter Hopes New Welcome Signs Enhance the San Angelo Experience

The second location is near the intersection of Bryant and W. 3rd St. by Starbucks. The welcome sign features a statue of a cowboy holding his hand out welcoming citizens as they enter town from the North.

The City of San Angelo along with COSA Development Corporation planned these signs with money that was allocated through sales tax. Mayor Gunter ensured San Angelo LIVE! during an interview that no infrastructure dollars were used to build these signs. 

The mayor said the three contributing factors to purchasing the signs were enhancing the tourism experience, enhancing how the city is projected, and economic development.

"The more we can do to look and feel better the more it will increase the business experience," said Mayor Gunter. "We have to do that because at the end of the day we are selling our city to these businesses."

A third sign is already in the process of being built after being approved in a city council meeting last month. This sign will be located near Mathis Field on Knickerbocker Rd. The spot for the sign has already been cleared and construction will begin in the near future.
