SAN ANGELO, TX -- Tom Green County has once again reached the midpoint in the 7-day hospitalization rate timeline that could lead to closures of local businesses.
For the third day in a row Trauma Service Area K has surpassed the threshold set by Governor Abbott back in October when businesses were allowed to return to 75 percent capacity.
Hospitalizations rate constantly fluctuate as patients are released from the hospital or unfortunately die. But even after experiencing what was by far the deadliest COVID-19 week, more and more patients appear to be admitted into the hospital with coronavirus complications.
Trauma Service Area K Hospitalization Rate
- Saturday, November 28: 16.5%
- Sunday, November 29: 16.08%
- Monday, November 30: 17.9%
According to the Department of State Health Services, there are currently 105 patients hospitalized, with 97 of them in San Angelo hospitals. There are currently 17 ICU beds available in Area K.
By comparison Trauma Service Area J, which includes Midland and Odessa, is reporting 297 hospitalizations due to COVID-19.
Last week, Area J was required to close bars and reduce capacity to 50 percent in local businesses after spending more than 7 days above the threshold. The current data shows they have been above fifteen percent for the last seven days.
The area is reporting 297 patients hospitalized with coronavirus and 41 available ICU beds.
Trauma Service Area D, which includes Coleman, Brown, and Taylor County is also on track to reach the seven-day milestone.
According to DSHS, there are currently 133 patients hospitalized, and only 2 ICU beds remain available in a region that services approximately 306,972 residents.
Last month Trauma Service Area K reached this same point in the seven-day timeline, but the hospitalization rate dropped after multiple people passed away and others were released from the hospital.
If the trend continues, today will be day four for Trauma Service Area K.
