Inclusive Signs Installed to Replace 'Racist' Middle School Name

SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Independent School District has officially covered up the previous Robert E. Lee Middle School signs with more inclusive signs.

As previously reported, on Nov. 23, a crew with the SAISD painted over what formally read "Robert E. Lee Middle School" and "Home of the Rebels."

Now the SAISD has placed signs which portray a message of equity and equality. The new signs read "San Angelo ISD We Are #Bettertogether" and "Best of the Best San Angelo ISD."

The school board approved the name change last month after months of discussion. The SAISD School Board has also received over a hundred name recommendations and the new name should be selected at the next school board meeting.
