Trammell Eats: The Best Pizza in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX – On this episode of Trammell Eats I took a trip to my favorite local pizza joint, Lilly's Pizza.

Lilly's originally opened its doors last year as previous owner, Zeke Bekim, was prepping to open the new Napoli's. After Napoli's opened its new location at the former Zentner's Daughter on Knickerbocker Rd., Bekim decided to let go of Lilly's.

Owner of the Chadbourne Tavern, Fernando Fuentes, stepped up and bought the business.

Fernando kept everything the same from the old pizza joint and added a few things like his classic "Nanjos." These "Nanjos" are special to him because he says it brings him back to when he was kid at Shakeys.

"We are going to be keeping everything the same when it comes to the wings and pizza," said Fernando. "Now we will be incorporating Rojos or "Nanjos."

Shakey's Pizza Parlor was a popular pizza joint that was in San Angelo for decades. One of its most popular items was the Rojos. Now that Shakey's is gone the fight for the control of Rojos began. Fernando says his "Nanjos" have been perfected and are the exact same as the famous Rojos from Shakeys.

"I've worked on my Nanjo recipe for 25 years plus, at home of course, and made a mess every time" said Fernando. "I've got this thing down pretty close to the original recipe."

The best thing about this place is the convenience and the stellar food. Located next to the Angelo State campus, Lilly's will soon be offering pizza by the slice.

So if you thought any of this looked or sounded good, go try it out for yourself at 2424 Vanderventer Ave.

I'm curious about what Rojos or Nanjos are. That's something a real reporter would have included.
