Senator Cornyn Announces Support for Interstate Highway Through San Angelo

WASHINGTON –Today U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) announced his support for a new bill establishing a Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor from Laredo to Amarillo, stopping along the way in Del Rio, Midland-Odessa, San Angelo, and Lubbock.  The proposed divided highway corridor would originate in Mexico and continue through West Texas to Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, and ultimately up north through Canada and the Pacific Northwest.

“Texas is already the largest state exporter of goods, and adding an artery connecting us to Mexico and Canada will mean better access to markets for Texas farmers, ranchers, and producers,” said Sen. Cornyn.  “I look forward to working with my colleagues representing states all along the Ports-to-Plains Corridor to bring this plan to fruition.”

This is a lame project. Did anybody survey the towns along the route of the proposed I-27 to find out what they wanted? Whose property is going to fall to eminent domain for this project? Do San Angeloans actually want all of the traffic noise, the carbon emissions, the interstate businesses of outsiders that crop up, the additional crime-people and drug smuggling? One of the things that makes San Angelo great is the home-town feel, the sense of knowing your community. Once that interstate goes through, that's all done. We are just a speck on the map of a trucker going from Mexico to OKC and vice versa. This is a real game-changer in so many ways and it's time to speak up now before it gets way out of hand. I moved here to avoid all of the above, and I guess I'll move again if I have to.
