San Angelo ISD Reports First COVID-19 Case at School

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo ISD said a staff member at San Jacinto Elementary School has tested positive with COVID-19 Monday afternoon.

“Due to the confidentiality requirements under HIPAA, FERPA, and ADA, we are unable to share staff and student names or other identifying information. Any staff member or student reported to have been in close contact with the positive staff member or student will be contacted with additional information. The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We continue to be in constant communication with our local health authorities and Center for Disease Control,” the district stated in a press release.

Elementary schools and middle schools celebrated their first day of classes August 19. Classes are in-person. The two high schools, Central and Lake View, begin in-person classroom instruction Sept. 2.

According to district policy, a student who tests positive for COVID-19 can return to class only if:

• They are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol or other fever-reducing medication;
• AND  Symptoms have improved (cough, difficulty breathing, etc.);
• AND  10 days have passed since symptoms began; AND  they have been officially released by the health department.

The district requires parents to sign an agreement containing this restriction.
