Rogue Storm Causes Power Outages and Widespread Damage Across San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX – A rogue thunderstorm blew through the San Angelo area early Saturday morning bring lightning, high winds, and hail causing damage across the city. 

According to reports, San Angelo Police officers were dispatched to dozens of calls beginning around 1:50 a.m. as the storm damaged power lines and caused widespread damage to buildings.

The first call was downed power lines at the intersection of Knickerbocker Rd. and Johnson St. by San Angelo Stadium.

SAPD officers blocked off the intersection and diverted traffic and AEP crews were called in because of downed power poles and electric lines.

Power was out for several hours across the city.

Police responded to a crash involving an RV which rolled over near the KOA campground at Lake Nasworthy.

Reports indicate two SAPD patrol vehicles were disabled by downed power lines on Loop 306.

The San Angelo Fire Department reported Engine 3 was also disabled on the loop by downed power lines.

There were calls of collapsed buildings as well.

Police responded to the Bellagio Apartments on Sweetbriar and found a heavily damaged roof but no collapse.

Firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 4100 block of Village East near Sitel.

The report was for active flames coming from the building.

No reports of injuries so far.

Police responded to a crash call on N. Chadbourne St. at the Window Depot building across from the Concho Valley Transit depot.

Reports indicate one vehicle may have hit another vehicle driving it into the building. 

The first vehicle was stopped along loop 306 blocks away.  Reports indicate a teenage female was injured and an ambulance was called.
