WATCH: NAACP President Wants Name Change at Another San Angelo School

SAN ANGELO, TX – The President of San Angelo's NAACP Chapter is calling for the name change of John H. Reagan Elementary.

Robert E Lee Middle school was once again brought up in the July 20 SAISD board meeting by the means of public comment. As previously reported since June a number of members of the community are calling for the name of the confederate generals name on the San Angelo middle school name. Here is our featured video piece on the issue.

Also in the meeting President of the NAACP unit 6219 of San Angelo Sherley Spears asked the board to consider changing the name of Reagan Elementary.

"On behalf of the members of the San Angelo NAACP this statement is to advise the board and those present that we are in support of the petition to change the name of Robert E. Lee middle school made by Mr. Jessie Ramon and are asking for consideration to change the name of Reagan Elementary." read Spears from a written statement made by the organization.

The complaint is that both of the schools are named after members of the confederacy. In regards to Reagan, Spears claims his position against America are unworthy of such honor and continue to promote divisiveness, exclusiveness, discrimination, and racism.

Reagan Elementary is named after John Henningen Reagan. Reagan served as the Postmaster General for Jefferson Davis during the Confederacy. Prior to him leaving the union Reagan was a Texas democrat in the House of Representatives. Following the civil war Reagan served as the Texas Railroad Commissioners.

In Austin, Reagan High School was renamed to Ronald Reagan High School. Reagan County is also named after John Henningen Reagan.

Reagan Elementary was named after John Reagan in 1909. It is the oldest elementary school in San Angelo at 111 years old.

Spears assures that if the SAISD decides to move forward with the name change that the NAACP is prepared recommend new names.

Renaming schools with Confederate names is fine with me. Where does it end? Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights initiative, and has a long history of discrimination. The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction, founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynchings, and fought against the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s. In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with the aim of abolishing it entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens; they’re property. The seven justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both Republicans. The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war. The commanderin-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln – the man who freed the slaves. Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated President Lincoln. Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed slaves into the South’s economic and social order. Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal Republican support. During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped secure rights for the newly freed slaves. Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900. The Democrats
did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935. With this in mind it is time for the Democrat party to end or change it's name

I am so tired of hearing people whine about a name of this or that. A name can not hurt you unless you are to insecure in the person you are and you let it. I went to these schools and believe me that all during that time I never heard ONE person say " Oh pity me, I can't learn in this school because it is named XYZ". Its the parent's putting these ideal's in our children's heads. The only thing holding a person back at being successful is themselves. {and I mean anybody"! Get up, put some backbone in to it and work for what you want. NOBODY owes you a darn thing. Grow-up. If the city gives into these people, where will it stop?

John H. Reagan High School in Austin was NOT renamed after Ronald Reagan. They changed the name to Northeast Early College High school, which is an utterly ridiculous name. Reagan/Northeast is one of the worst schools in Austin. I know, I graduated from there. Most kids graduate with about a 7th grade education. To rename it Northeast Early College is laughable, to say the least.

Nominate her to pay for the name change. Sounds like a great compromise to me.

The important thing is the significance of the name, then versus now. Mr. Lincoln's War was about the right to secession. The point to secession being the personal freedom of citizens to own other people. Not just White people wanted to own other people. Indigenous people owned other people. Owning other people was the result of purchase or capture. These concepts are not what springs first to mind when reading a school name. Was it what first sprang to mind when the naming was done ? Are we going to have a "history war", whose history and values most deserve recognition? What else would others have us change/cancel? And, by the way, if new names are chosen, if our history is diluted and/or our past reality ignored, then let's not choose the name of a person because inevitably down the line someone will figure out that the person was flawed, perhaps with personally significant values that are out of date and deemed harmful in the new age.

The NAACP can cry me a river!! Get over your hurt feelings like an adult! Never heard a word about it but now that you have your partners with BLM going around terrorizing the northern US, rioting, beating up old people, threatening citizens, vandalizing monuments, etc, etc! Not once have I heard a single comment about you condemning any of the violence they are doing!! All I’ve heard is defund police departments, tear down any monument that you don’t like, force institutions to donate to whatever you want, pay a restitution for slavery, kill white privileged people and anybody that disagrees with anything you say!! Then like a true hypocrite call everybody a racist because you are an idiot and continue to blame everybody else for people that commit violent crimes and break current laws on a regular basis!! It’s called take responsibility for your own actions and stop making excuses for the ones that can’t or don’t want to live a normal law abiding contributing citizen life!! It’s called grow up!!

Guy could use an Irish mechanic in his life. Btw, here's an Irish description of Brits fawning over the Queen:

"For some reason, I thought it was going to be a reasonable number of bods shaking the hand and kissing the royal arses. But no, there were about six thousand hysterical Brits and assorted Anglophiles behaving like Margaret Thatcher soccer hooligans; respectable-looking old colonials and dames, pushing to get the best view and screaming—yes, screaming—"The Queeeeen, Gawd Bless er!" The heat, the glare, the sweat, and the odor of thousands of unwashed Britons was too much for my beautiful Anita, who suddenly got the vapors. We had to whack our way through a savage horde to get out of the mess."

... desperately needs to be " Defunded " not the Police! The NAACP is in my opinion another organization the Damn-Ocrats are funding to further divide American citizens! "Defund" the NAACP ... not the Police department's!

Good Lord, enough is enough. Who is going to pay for this and once you start with the schools how about the streets? Can't do one without the other now can we. I can tell you the schools in this town get enough of my money as it is and I don't even have any children attending ANY of them to include ASU. So if you want to have bake sales and fundraisers go ahead but i will pitch one royal hissy fit if my taxes are once again raised to pay for such stupidity. Even for San Angelo this is stupidity personified. Changing the names of schools and streets does not change what is in someone's heart, sorry it just doesn't.

This crap is nothing new, and for those of use old enough to remember when our country wasn't held hostage by street trash and their mentally defective token snowflakes, this all began around the time we were scolded by these fucking malcontents that saying "retarded" wasn't nice. After than it became a guessing game, as to the proper term to use for Blacks....don't say ''homo'', don't say "he throws like a girl", ad nauseam.

This would've been the time to shout down this nonsense, but you may as well have been dealing with children -- retarded children, and now entire segments of society have become commandeered by radical and dangerous factions like BLM (Burn, Loot, Murder) and the opportunistic politicians who've latched onto this cultural bowel movement to further their own agendas.

Emboldened by the apathy of local Democratic government bodies, this collective filth no longer fears the consequences of their prospective criminal actions, and have now gone a step further to accosting and, at times, assaulting and harassing private citizens, on private property.

Private citizens, don't wait for orders from their respective mayors, and they certainly aren't depending on Washington's empty promises to ''send in help". Eventually, a group of these BLM/ANTIFA/Snowflake bottom feeders will descend upon the wrong house, belonging to the right residents, and will become the contemporary poster children for the next scheduled riot.

This scourge will continue to spread as long as nothing is done about it, and this collective gaggle of criminals only knows how to communicate with acts of violence and displays of force. It's time to start speaking their language.
