SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo native Andrew Cantu serves in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower and has been featured by NAVCO in a picture taken on July 31, 2020.
The Navy Office of Community Outreach or (NAVCO) is dedicated to connecting Americans with their Navy. They provide information and pictures of hometown heroes serving their country.
The following description was provided with the image:
“Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Equipment) 2nd Class Andrew Cantu, from San Angelo, Texas, monitors aircraft catapult settings aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), in the Atlantic Ocean, July 31, 2020. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Strike Group is conducting operations in U.S. 6th fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe and Africa.”
As most of the Navy's personnel and equipment are concentrated on America's coasts NAVCO oversees community outreach programs that aim to bring America's Navy to cities that do not have a significant Navy presence.

The first time I heard him I was bouncing along in a Jeep with three other scumbags on an unpaved ill-kempt ranch road somewhere about halfway between Marfa and Mexico listening to a tape of his. We were laughing so hard I thought we would turn that Jeep over which, of course, would have spilled the beer.
