Reports: The Fish Are Biting in Area Lakes

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reports this week that fishing is good on area lakes.

According to the TPWD, fishing reports are updated each week, usually by Thursday morning. The reports are compiled by an outside contractor who receives the information from bait shops, marinas and fishing guides.

Here are the weekly reports for San Angelo area lakes:

Nasworthy

GOOD. Water stained; 86 degrees. 0.82’ low. Black bass are good fishing deep ridges with weighted worms, spinners, and crankbait. Spillway and flooded timber has picked up again and long with sandy and gravel humps. Crappie are good with minnows in deep coves later in the day. White bass are fair all deep all the time. Catfish are fair on live and prepped baits throughout the lake.

O.C. Fisher

FAIR. Water stained; 85 Degrees. 39.68’ low. Largemouth bass are fair fishing the deepest you will all year off islands and not far off untouched steeper banks and drops in the morning. Crappie are good seeking creeks and the calmness they bring. White bass are fair off points. Catfish are fair on stinkbait, live, and cut bait.

O.H. Ivie

GOOD. Water clear; 85 degrees; 10.91’ low. Black bass are fair, staying close to brush and points by fishing spinners and long casting baits to cover water. Crappie are good on jigs mainly under structures. Catfish are good on stinkbait, live, and cut bait. White bass are fair, seeking the best deep pockets.

Spence

FAIR. Water stained; 85 degrees; 38.69’ low. Black bass are improving but still mostly slow. Alabama rigs have a surprise success for 2-6lb bass. If you’re seeking a lunker work worms in exposed vegetation. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows without much consistency to location. Hybrid bass are slow. Catfish are fair on live and cut bait coming out from flats to deeper water.

Twin Buttes

FAIR. Water Stained. 83 Degrees. 9.96’ low. Black bass are fair with most success coming early mornings in flooded grassy areas early on jigs and poppers. During the rest of the day, fish live bait. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair but inconsistent working deep points with Alabama rigs. Catfish are fair on live and prepped baits.
