SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo man was sent to prison recently after taking a plea bargain on two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact.
According to the indictment, in the July term of 2019, a Tom Green County grand jury indicted Michael Sanchez, 33, for continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14.
The charges came after the San Angelo Police Department found two separate instances where Sanchez had allegedly molested children.
The molestations allegedly occurred between January of 2010 thorough April of 2018. Sanchez is accused of touching the genitals of a child under the age of 14. He also made the same minor and another child under the age of 14 touch his genitals. These acts allegedly happened more than twice over time.
Sanchez was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Jan. 7, 2020 at 8:23 p.m. His bond was set at $100,000 but never made bail while in Tom Green County.
On April 1, 2020 the District Attorneys Office offered Sanchez a plea deal. In the deal Sanchez would plea guilty to two lesser counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact instead of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14.
Sanchez took the deal and was sentenced to three years in prison with no probation. He was transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on July 31, 2020 at 5:43 a.m.
