SAN ANGELO, TX – After four guns were stolen from vehicles on Thursday the San Angelo Police Department issued a notice reminding gun owners the proper way to store firearms.
According to the SAPD, on July 17, four firearms were stolen from two separate vehicle burglaries yesterday.
The first victim reported the vehicle was left unsecured. The other victim reported they thought they locked their vehicle but there were NO signs of forced entry.
SAPD officers want to remind citizens that gun safety isn't just how you handle the weapon — it's also how you store it. Removing guns from vehicles entirely or securing them safely in a trunk or lockbox can help prevent your firearms from ending up in the wrong hands.
Here are a few tips on how to prevent vehicle burglaries:
Lock It - Lock your vehicle and take your keys, key fobs, and garage door openers with you.
Take It - Take purses, wallets, and any other property of value, to include firearms, out of the vehicle.
Hide It - If you are unable to take valuable items with you, hide the items out of sight in the trunk or other secure areas of the vehicle.
If you believe that your vehicle has been burglarized, do not touch anything and call the San Angelo Police Department at 325-657-4315.

" Common sense thinking and proper safety precautions"! What does that say about the individuals that left their firearm in their vehicle. Makes me wonder if they should be even driving!
