U.S. Citizen Caught Smuggling 80 lbs of Meth in El Paso

EL PASO, TX — Agents with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Bridge of the Americas Wednesday stopped the attempted smuggling of more than 80 pounds of methamphetamine.

According to CBP, around 2:00 p.m. a 22-yea-old U.S. Citizen male attempted to cross into the United States in a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The primary CBP officer referred the Malibu to a secondary inspection after identifying anomalies.

During the secondary inspection, a CBP drug-sniffing dog alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and an X-ray examination revealed several anomalies in the vehicle’s quarter panels and rear bumper.

During the search, officers extracted 89.9 pounds of methamphetamine from the vehicle.

The subject was arrested by CBP officers and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations to face charges for the failed smuggling attempt.
