WATCH: Sheriff Welcomes 2 New Tough Deputies

SAN ANGELO, TX -- While a number of cities across America are calling to defund and perhaps abolish law enforcement in their community, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office added two new deputies on Monday morning.

Manuel Zavala and Timothy Manis were sworn in by Tom Green County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard on the steps of the Tom Green County Courthouse.

Before Judge Howard officially swore in the two deputies he passed on a message.

"As you make this oath today remember that what you are saying to this community is that I'm yours," said Howard. "I will be yours and I will protect you."

Watch as Chief Deputy Sheriff of Tom Green County Nick Hanna welcomes the two new deputies while Zavala and Manis share their reasons for joining the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office and why society needs law enforcement now more than ever.

What makes them so tough? Is that a job requirement? Bad choice of words IMHO.

To join law enforcement in this era (we hope passes) makes you tough.
