SAN ANGELO, TX — A DPS trooper was injured while attempting to catch a speeding motorist on U.S. 67 northeast of San Angelo on the morning of Thursday, June 18.
According to the DPS, a trooper was on patrol near the Tom Green-Runnels County line at 7:26 a.m., driving southwest-bound on U.S. 67, when the trooper attempted to make a u-turn to pursue a motorist driving the opposite way. The trooper was in the outside lane when he initiated the u-turn.
In the inside lane was a woman driving a van. The DPS said the trooper failed to see the white 2018 Dodge van traveling the same direction. As a result, the white van struck the trooper’s vehicle on the driver’s side door.
The van driver, the woman, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The trooper was transported to Shannon Medical Center by ambulance with minor injuries.
DPS did not release the names of either the trooper or the woman driving the van.

...and thoughts in the rant section of SA Live mean less than nothing to anyone I have noticed... but it appears to me that if the DPS Trooper did not see the white van that was going in the same direction and in the inside lane , the trooper didn't check his rear view and driver side view mirrors before he made his "U turn" to pursue the speeding vehicle going in the opposite direction! A clear case of driver error on the Troopers part! Also, it seems to me he may have been a rookie Trooper because I would think an experienced veteran trooper most likely would not have made an driving error like that! I wish both the trooper and the woman make a complete recovery!

PermalinkThis here is the type of thing being protested. Such a god complex that instead of checking his blind spot he decided that a speeding motorist was more dangerous than him being negligent and guess what? He was wrong.
