SWEETWATER, TX – Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda announced Tuesday he is leaving the department at the end of June.
Frieda said he is retiring after 30 years in law enforcement and the last 8 years with the Sweetwater PD.
Sweetwter City Manager David Vela told KTXS they will not hire a search firm to find Frieda's replacement.
"We're confident we can handle the search and find a good, qualified candidate, that's a good fit for Sweetwater, using an internal process," said Vela.
According to the SPD, Lt. Matt Counts has been promoted to interim Chief and the department expects to hire a new chief by the end of the year.

... as if his announcement of retirement has anything to do with what is going on in America with all the protests and murders of non-whites that corrupt Police officers have done across this country. The man stated he is retiring and the end of June! Your headline needs to be changed Yantis ... it isn't racist but it is Offensive to most likely Chief Brian F.... you need to change the wording because it could cause his family grief and bad feelings because Ole Brian is retiring! (... you see folks ... you can find and be offended by anything
... if that's how you look at situations... you can make any situation "Offensive" if that's your goal in life ... to be "Offended, live in the past and not the present or future "! Get over it people... history is history... and there is not a damn thing anyone can do to change that!)
