Permalink... back in the day ( I believe it was 1973 ) ... a Country music Band I played rhythm and some solo guitar tunes ... we were playing at a Bar on N.Chad and 24th street ( down the street from Western Skies Steak House) and just before midnight... a couple of members of an infamous family (the Binyons) ... came in ... and started a brawl at the Pool tables. Before you know it ... everyone was brawling, throwing punches, beer bottles, billiard ball and cue sticks! Our lead guitar player jumped off the stage because someone was hitting his girlfriend. The girlfriends brother was our bass player that night... and he jumped off the stage to retrieve our lead guitar player. That left me and the drummer on stage. The backdoor to the Bar was at the rear of the building... next to the stage. The drummer and I were getting hit with shrapnel from broken beer bottles and cue sticks...and quite a few beer bottles smashed on the wall behind us. The drummer looked at me and pointed towards the back door ... I gave a knod ... tossed my guitar into its case ... and we exited out the back door... a minute and two later ... out came our bass player and lead guitar player. We all jumped in our van and waited to the police arrived... which was about 7 or 8 minutes after we exited out the back door. We checked with the arriving officers... told them we were the band and what we could about it ... and they said if we leave if we were okay. We left all our equipment in the Bar till the next morning... we collected our thing... and never played that Bar again. Typical for Friday and Saturday nights in a lot of Bars in town back then... but... not typical for a Week night! I have lots of memories from back then ... some good ... some bad!

PermalinkLove this! A group of walking comorbidities belly flopping, each one fatter and more out of breath than the next.
The only thing that would add to the "funny", would be the details of what kicked off this sumo-sized free-for-all in the first place, and possibly a tuba solo soundtrack.
