The former Brest Boot Shop or Rusty Franklin Boot Shop, that sustained the majority of its damage during a Sunday afternoon structure fire on Dec. 28, 2008, experienced its final blow last night. The final act was when the western wall, the storefront of the structure, tumbled down in last night's driving rain.
Before Robert Brest bought the store in 2004, it was known as R.E. Donaho Saddle Shop, in business in San Angelo since the 1890s. The best date estimated for the construction of the building is 1909, according to an article written by Anthony Wilson in 2009 for the local paper.
The southern wall of the old building fell during the windstorms earlier this month.
What little is left of the old historic building is at 522 S. Chadbourne Street, San Angelo. Work crews were seen tearing down the rest of the storefront Sunday afternoon.
