SAN ANGELO, TX – The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service have launched a new online platform that allows individuals who don't normally file a tax return to quickly register for their Covid-19 stimulus check.
For starters, most Americans do not need to register in order to get the economic impact payments that were part of the $2.2 trillion stimulus package. If you previously filed taxes for the 2018 or 2019 fiscal year, then the IRS already has the information it needs for you to get your one-time payments. The IRS said Friday that payments will be distributed automatically to most individuals beginning next week.
The new IRS stimulus platform is designed for people who don’t normally have a tax return filing obligation, including those with not enough income to file. This new feature is available only on IRS.gov, and users should look for the Non-filers: Enter Payment Info Here "tab" to take them directly to the new registration platform.
Also, if you currently receive one of the following benefits then the IRS already has your information and you will receive the $1,200 payment automatically: Social Security retirement benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, Railroad Retirement and Survivor Benefits. Furthermore, if you fall into any of the categories and have children under the age of 17, then you can also use the non-filing tool to claim the extra $500 per child as well.
The IRS said Friday that it plans to launch a second online platform where citizens can check the status of their payment and submit direct deposit information.
