Coronavirus: City Orders Nail, Hair, and Tattoo Parlors Shut Down

SAN ANGELO, TX — You can’t cut hair, trim nails, or apply a tattoo without being closer that six feet away from another person. The six-foot rule is what prompted the City of San Angelo to shut down all nail salons, hair salons and tattoo parlors in the city limits.

If a business can operate with no more than 10 people and those at the place of business can separate themselves by at least six feet, that business can remain open, explained City of San Angelo Attorney Theresa James.

For clarity, the City is issuing an order to close down nail salons, hair salons and tattoo parlors tomorrow.

Over at ARock Salon, owner Autumn Brockman is taking the order in stride. She has already closed her doors.

“This is the only income most of us here have. This is how we support our families. But we all knew this would happen so we worked until they said we can’t anymore,” she said.

All of the stylists at ARock are 1099 contractors, so there is no income for them once the salon closed.

“Three girls here have husbands who lost just their job in the oil field. They got laid off,” Brockman said. Those cosmologists cannot bring in extra income home now.

The economic impact on San Angelo of the coronavirus shutdown is causing hardship for many. Dining rooms of restaurants, bars, and gyms were closed last week by an order by Governor Greg Abbott.
