WATCH: Gun Cam Captures Shoot-Out Between Officer and Wanted Fugitive
VERNON, TX – The Vernon Police Department has released footage of the newly equipped gun cameras in action.
The video was originally recorded on April 27, 2019 by Vernon Police Officer Corporal T.J. Session. It started when Session spotted a man he knew was wanted for continuous sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl.
The wanted man, Walter Orellana, at first lied about his identity which caused the incident to become physical.
During the struggle Orellana pulled a sawed off shotgun on the officer and shot him in the shoulder. The 20 gauge shotgun put more than 40 BBs into the shoulder of Session.
Session quickly emptied the magazine into Orellana and the vehicle he was inside. According to the Vernon Record Orellana was shot with 8 of the 29 bullets that Session fired.
Orellana since has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for shooting the officer.
This is the first known case in the world where an officer-involved shooting was captured by a gun camera.

Permalinkpart of the video is actually filmed from an attached camera on his service pistol. You can clearly see the recoil in the playback in the repeated part of the shooting. Last 45 seconds is the gun cam and yes they are a thing.

PermalinkInteresting... The camera detached automatically and filmed another clip being loaded into itself.

PermalinkLast part of the video does look a bit odd. Doesn't seem like a good way to get evidence. The cam is all over the place.
