Franco’s Café was burglarized in Thursday’s wee-early morning hours as the kitchen staff was prepping for the morning breakfast crowd.
Franco’s Café, 2218 Martin Luther King Drive, is a popular early morning breakfast stop for huevos rancheros, menudo, and breakfast burritos for many San Angeloans. It earns one of the highest star ratings of any local restaurant, 4.6 of 5 stars on Google Local.
According to San Angelo Police Chief Tim Vasquez, the cooks heard a window crash just after 5 a.m. Thursday morning. When they ran out of the back into the front of the eatery to see what had happened, they noticed that a front window into the dining area was broken and the cash register was missing.
Investigating further, some of the Franco’s staff ran out into the parking lot. There, they witnessed a male loading the cash register into a white vehicle and fleeing the scene.
According to Vasquez, the cash register’s cash drawer had not yet been populated with cash for the early morning breakfast rush. It was empty.
The 911 call for service happened at 5:27 a.m. according to police logs.
By this evening, Franco’s had replaced the broken window and business was brisk as always.
Be on the lookout for a man with an empty cash register.
