UPDATE: Police Officer Resigns After Authorities Question Military Commendations

CLYDE, TX - The Clyde Police Department suspended an officer over allegations regarding his military service. The allegations state the officer fraudulently claimed he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. That same officer is currently running for Callahan County Sheriff.

According to KTXS, Leroy Foley was suspended after Chief of Police Robert Dalton became aware of the allegations that were made against Foley on Friday. Foley has worked for the police department since November 2017.

In a press release, the Clyde Police Department stated they "immediately began an internal review of these allegations" and placed Foley on administrative leave until the review is finished.

"We take these allegations extremely seriously, as we have, and will continue to hold our officers to the highest standards possible," said Chief Dalton.

UPDATE: February 10, 2020 @ 3:00 p.m.

Officer Leroy Foley has voluntarily resigned his position with the Clyde Police Department after being placed on administrative leave on Friday.

According to a press release posted by the Clyde Police Department on Facebook, CPD will continue their “internal review of this matter in order to reach a conclusion and determine if any additional actions are warranted.”

In the statement, Chief Dalton explained the department has consulted with the Callahan County District Attorney's office to update them of the incident and may call on outside agencies for additional assistance as needed.

According to KTXS, on Friday Foley showed the station a copy of his DD-214, discharge papers, and stated he stands behind the commendations.

If the investigation proves the allegations true, he should not only be fired, but his state law enforcement certification should be revoked.

I’m confused...if Officer Foley showed his DD-214 (which would show his awards), why did he resign? What’s missing from this story?
