SAN ANGELO, TX – Concho Valley PAWS is hosting it's 4th Annual Home for the Holidays Event. In an effort to find homes for homeless pets, PAWS and their sponsors Entertel and Western Shamrock are offering all dogs and cats over 4 months of age for free. The free adoption includes spay and neuter, vaccinations, microchip, collar, leash and engraved ID tag. The event runs all week and concludes on Saturday, December 14th at 6pm.
"Home for the Holidays is a very successful event for us," said Jenie Wilson, Executive Director. Each year, Home for the Holidays results in about fifty new homes for pets. But this year, the organization is aiming higher. "We have made this event a week long event beginning December 9th through 6pm on Saturday, December 14. It is our hope to place 100 dogs and cats in loving homes this week." Wilson said. The purpose of a free event is to encourage people to adopt versus buying a pet from a breeder and to also encourage those people who have been thinking about adopting to take action. "Our sponsors and donors make this possible because it costs an average of one-hundred dollars per pet to prepare them for adoption. We couldn't offer a free event without sponsors willing to underwrite those expenses. We are very grateful to Enertel and Western Shamrock as this is their second year as our Home for the Holidays sponsors." Wilson said.
Currently there are over 170 dogs and 180 cats available for adoption at the shelter and over 50 cats available at the cat adoption center inside Sunset Mall. All animals over 4 months qualify for the free event. "Puppies and kittens do not qualify for the free event. However, we do have several available for adoption. The adoption of a puppy costs $150.00 and kittens are $100.00. "The reason puppies and kittens are not eligible for the free event is because any of them under the age of 4 months will require additional and ongoing veterinary care such as booster shots and we provide all of that for the adopters." Wilson said.
The shelter is open from 10am-6pm weekdays and will be open Saturday, December 14 from 10am-6pm. The Sunset Mall Adoption Center is open Wednesday-Saturday 1pm-7pm. For more information, please visit cvpaws.org or call 325-656-PETS (7387)

I wholeheartedly support programs like this. My far superior half and I are currently the owners/servants of a Rat Terrier/Jack Russell Terrier/Heaven Only Knows What mix that was found on the street darn near starving and afraid of people because of suspected past abuse. She is now a part of our family and gives us more pleasure in a day than most people we know do in a week. She and we are quite happy about the arrangement.
We will adopt again in the future.
I ask people to give adoption a try. It's good karma.
