Wall, Eldorado, and West Texas in General Highlight New State Rankings

SAN ANGELO, TX — Dave Campbell's Texas Football's weekly high school football rankings had a significant West Texas flavor this week..

The Wall Hawks jumped past the 8-1 Grandview Zebras for the top spot in all of 3A Division I after improving to 9-0 with a win over Breckenridge.  Wall was #2 in last weeks rankings.

A fresh face on the scene is Eldorado.  The Eagles are 8-1 and have made statewide noise before their biggest game of the season against Christoval.  Beating Menard last week 61-0 was the last piece of evidence DCTF needed to put them in the 2A DII rankings.  They are making their first appearance at #10.

From elsewhere in the region:

6A - Midland Lee makes the leap from #18 to #17 after beating rival Midland 49-6.  Euless Trinity also improved one spot to #23 after beating Abilene.

5A DI - #9 Abilene-Cooper stayed the same on their bye week.

5A DII - #6 Lubbock Cooper and #9 Kerrville Tivy remained the same.

4A DI - #4 Midland Greenwood and #5 Lubbock Estacado remained the same.

3A DI - #1 Wall jumped from #2 to #1.  #9 Eastland remained the same after beating Clyde 42-27.

3A DII - #7 Cisco remained the same.

2A DI - #3 San Saba remained the same and #9 Mason was moved up from #10 after beating Harper 54-0.

2A DII - #10 Eldorado became ranked for the first time after beating Menard 61-0.

1A/6 Man DI - #5 Sterling City remained the same.

1A/6 Man DII - #3 Richland Springs remained the same.

As much as I love those Wall Hawks, that ranking might be a little ambitious. Let's think about it....

132 yards in penalties in the first half alone against Breckenridge. I don't doubt the refs feasted on some home cooking at Buckaroo stadium, but it seems penalties are an issue every week with this version of the Hawks. Clean up the mistakes, guys.

Inconsistent offense. Not since the Mason game have the Hawks been consistent on offense and they haven't played anyone with a stalwart defense. Again, penalties are an issue, but so are turnovers. Someone in the playoffs (probably Brock) is gonna stack the box with eight defenders and dare Guy to throw. Can Fuchs deliver?

All that being said, the defense is outstanding and defense wins championships. So......Go Wall Hawks!!!
