Runaway Pickup Snaps Power Pole and Rams into Old Gas Station

SAN ANGELO, TX — “I don’t know if there was a distraction in the truck or what. I do know they were traveling too fast to maintain control,” is how the investigator at the San Angelo Police Department described the circumstances that led to the driver of a pickup who ran into a wooden power transmission line pole, snapping it, and then ending up rammed into an old, abandoned gas station on Avenue N.

Police said the truck was westbound on Avenue N. A witness told police that the pickup driver appeared to be driving normally up to the time it veered right into the pole. The witness said the crash was sudden and unexpected.

Both the driver and a passenger in the truck were rushed to Shannon Medical Center via ambulance with minor injuries.

The driver was cited for Failure to Control Speed. Avenue N was partially shut down from the time the crash happened just before 1 p.m. for about 30 minutes.

The building the truck crashed into is an open business. Tony’s Garage and has been operating here for the past 40 years, sir.

This happens to be Tony's Garage, one of the few honest and reputable repair shops in town, that has been in business for quite sometime. Maybe you should get out and about more often Joe!
