SAN ANGELO, TX -- A 71-year-old was arrested Thursday after police say he was making heroin.
According to the affidavit signed by Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard, on October 3, officers with the San Angelo Police Department arrested Pete Quiroz, 70, for intentionally and knowingly manufacturing Heroin.
During the arrest, officers also found Methadone. Methadone a synthetic analgesic drug that is similar to morphine in its effects but longer acting, used as a substitute drug in the treatment of morphine and heroin addiction.
According to the American Addiction Center, Theoretically, methadone’s presence in the body will prevent heroin and other opioid drugs from binding to the opioid receptors in the brain. A person who takes heroin while on methadone should not feel the effects of heroin. People who take one dose of heroin while on methadone most likely won’t experience any euphoric effects, but some people may become frustrated and immediately take more heroin. This can lead to overdose, as the brain is flooded with several types and doses of opioids.
Quiroz was charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $10,000 and was released from the Tom Green County Jail the following day.
