Abilene Mom Hospitalized for Nearly a Month Due to Vaping

ABILENE, TX -- A mother from Abilene is trying to share her story after she was in the hospital for nearly a month due to vaping.

According to KTXS, for months Sherie Canada thought that she had been sick with the flue or some sort of bug. When she finally went to the hospital turned out she had gotten pre-pneumonia from vaping.

The fluids and blood clots in her lungs were so bad, doctors were forced to put her in a medically induced coma. She was put to sleep on June 18 and spent 24 days in the ICU.

“I was sent to the ICU on my middle son’s 13th birthday and intubated on my 15-year-old son’s birthday," Canada said. "I felt a lot of guilt and shame. I did this to myself.”

As vaping illnesses and deaths are on the rise Canada wants to share her story to tell others the dangers of vaping.

"I was given a second chance for a reason," Canada said.

I’ve heard most of these vaping illnesses have been due to black market or off brand products and others from vaping with THC marijuana forms.

Responsible journalism would've included exactly what she was vaping in this story. I've been vaping for 8 years and my smoker's cough disappeared within a year of switching to vaping. As long as you buy from reputable sources who put their products through rigorous testing you shouldn't have any problems. This type of dishonest journalism is exactly what's going to force me back to cigarettes once vaping is outlawed. I would bet my life this woman's problems are from vaping THC or from black market sources.

8 years for me as well. Every story I have read when people are put in hospitals is because they were doing something that they were not supposed to. They don't follow guidelines and then blame it on the vape products instead of their own ignorance.

What do you need to vape in the first place? With the deaths lately, it seems like a good way to stop.

There has been a reported 6 deaths due to vaping. Yet the CDC says that there are 4,300 underage deaths every single year due to alcohol. How is it possible that 6 deaths due to vaping is a national crisis, yet 4,300 underage deaths due to alcohol is business as usual?
