SAN ANGELO,TX -- A Tom Green County man accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl for years and filming the encounters had his jury trial postponed Thursday.
Jury selection was supposed to begin Thursday morning but potential jurors were sent home when jury selection was canceled.
Douglas Groover, 35, was arrested after a female child under the age of 17 accused him of several incidents of sexual assault. Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies in the Criminal Investigation Division made the arrest in August 2018.
According to an affidavit from Justice of the Peace Susan Werner, the victim stated she had been sexually assaulted for several years by Groover. During a forensic interview, the victim stated Groover forced her to have oral and anal sex.
The detailed affidavit states Goover admitted that he had child pornography in his possession. He filmed himself having sex with the victim. Groover later showed the victim the images.
Groover's defense attorney Nathan Butler told District Judge Carmen Dusek that Groover is a veteran and had disabilities because of his service in the military and the treatment for those disabilities. Butler filed a motion to compel the military to produce Groover's medical records. Butler also filed a motion for a continuance which judge Dusek granted.
The jury trial is now tentatively set to begin Monday, Sept. 30, 2019 and is expected to last four days.
