SAN ANGELO, TX — The 11-year-old girl who was caught in a boat propellor at Lake Nasworthy on Sunday is in high spirits.
On July 7, the San Angelo Lake Division were told about an accident involving an 11-year-old girl whose legs were caught in the propellor of a boat.
According to the SAPD, Peighton Strickland was wearing a life jacket had been swimming with friends near the shoreline when her legs became entangled with a disabled boat’s moving propellor. The boat’s operator rescued Peighton from the water and applied a makeshift tourniquet before jumping into the water and pulling the boat ashore with help from the boat’s other occupants.

Once onshore, SAPD Lake Officers applied two Combat Application Tourniquets (C-A-T) to the swimmer's legs, which were covered with numerous lacerations.
Peighton was transported to Shannon Medical Center and later to the Cook's Children's hospital in Fort Worth. She is still currently there in the ICU.
Even though the injury was horrific and life altering for an 11-year-old, Peighton's father Lane Strickland told San Angelo LIVE! that she is in good sprits during all the tests and surgeries.
"They will run more tests in the morning and come up with a game plan on where to go from there." said Lane. "She's way stronger than I am."
Even though not much information is known at this time, Lane is certain that his strong-willed daughter will be okay in the end.
As of now no funds have been raised for the family even though Lane said multiple people have reached out.

PermalinkAfter reading that her legs were entangled, I was concerned she may lose them. Hope she gets back to 100%
However, one thing puzzles me about the story above. If the boats' propeller were moving the boat also would be moving, unless it was somehow moored in place. "Disabled" boats don't usually have props that turn. Just curious.....
Get well soon Peighton!
