The San Angelo-Tom Green County Health Department will be assisting state health officials in two free local clinics next week to test for sexually transmitted diseases.
Sponsored by the Texas Department of State Health Services, the community outreach activities will provide free and confidential testing for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia. Both Each day of public testing will occur at the Wash Zone car wash at North Chadbourne and West 21st streets. Testing dates are:
- Friday, May 9, from 1 p.m.-8 p.m.
- Saturday, May 10, from 1 p.m.-6 p.m.
No physical exam will be required to be tested. Instead, a small blood and urine sample will be collected. The specimens will be conducted for testing only the four STD’s listed above. The testers will also provide pamphlets for HIV and STD’s, information on adult vaccines, and free condoms plus giveaways.
According to the DSHS, one in five people with HIV is unaware he or she is infected.
