Retirement Ceremony for Legendary San Angelo Police Officer

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- On Friday, March 29, 2019, the San Angelo Police Department will host a Retirement Ceremony for Officer Brian Bylsma. The ceremony is slated for 10:30 a.m. at the McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive, in Council Chambers. The ceremony is open to the public.

According to SAPD Public Information Officer Tracy Piatt-Fox, Bylsma began his career with the City of San Angelo as a dispatcher in 1998. After becoming an officer in 1999, Bylsma served in the Patrol Division as well as the Criminal Investigations Division’s Gang Unit before spending the last six years of his career in the Traffic Section. Throughout his tenure with the Department, Brian has completed nearly 3,500 law enforcement training hours and he holds a Master Peace Officers License. Other awards include the 2010 Community Service Award, Intermediate Peace Officer Certification, Military Service Award, United Way, Best Practices, Investigative Services, and Uniformed Services. Brian has also received numerous Letters of Recognition and Commendation from citizens and partnering law enforcement agencies. 

Bylsma is also well-known in the community for his efforts in coordinating the S.A.C.O.P. Blue Santa Program and Thanksgiving Meal Delivery Program. To date, both programs have raised and spent nearly $116,000 to enrich the lives of 580 local families.

Prior to his civilian law enforcement career, Bylsma served in the Security Forces of the United States Air Force for twenty years.
