SAN ANGELO, TX -- A former Sweetwater coach is under investigation after sending a sexually explicit text message to a female student police say.
KTXS reports that Sweetwater police say Tanner Crain, 26, sent a sexually explicit text message to the female student. Crain admitted to sending the text, which depicted a picture from the internet with an explicit caption, Police Chief Brian Frieda said.
Crain, an assistant football coach and history teacher, resigned last week after meeting with police, Frieda added. Police plan to examine the data and text messages from Crain's phone after he surrendered it to police.
Police will continue to investigate the case. Once their investigation is complete, the findings will be handed to the Nolan County District Attorney to determine whether or not to charge Crain with distribution of harmful material to a minor, a class A misdemeanor charge.
The Texas Education Agency was notified of the investigation by police.
The victim was commended for "being brave enough to come forward" by Frieda.
