SAN ANGELO, TX -- A 46-year-old Mexican national was sentenced to prison for inducing a girl under 14-years-old to send nude photographs of herself to him.
45-year-old Sergio Arnoldo Marin was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury on a four count charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 years of age.
Marin is accused of having sex with the underaged girl several times as well as inducing her to send the nude photographs.
The District Attorney's office offered Marin a plea deal in exchange for a guilty plea to the lesser charge. The deal sends Marin to prison for 12 years.
Since Marin is not a U.S. citizen, District Judge Ben Woodward told him he would likely be deported and denied reentry to the United States once he completes his sentence.
The judge also advised Marin that he could ask the court to contact the Mexican Embassy to assist him with his defense. At first, Marin indicated he wanted the court to contact Mexican authorities but after consulting with his defense attorney Fred Brigman, Marin said he did not want to contact Mexican authorities.
Because the victim was under 14 the charge was enhanced to a first degree felony punishable by five to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Court documents indicate Marin had a valid Texas driver's license so he was presumably in the United States legally.
