Controversial City Councilman McAlister Files for Re-Election

ABILENE, TX-- After being surrounded with controversy from Facebook comments labeled as racist, Abilene City Councilman Kyle McAlister filed his paperwork to run for re-election on Wednesday.

McAlister is looking for a third term in the race for Abilene's Place 6 race, as KTXS first reported.

"What I said and what I wrote (was) very inappropriate, very offensive, very insensitive, not thoughtful at all. And I regret that," McAlister said.

McAlister is running on the platform of fixing Abilene's streets and focusing on their downtown hotel.

However, McAlister knows the 120,000-plus Abilene residents are where his fate lies in the upcoming election.

"I represent 120,000 Abilenians all across the spectrum," McAlister said "If they think 'Hey, he's apologized. We're good. We move on,' then great. If they say 'we're not,' that's fine too."

Elections will be held on May 4.
