AREA GIRLS HOOPS: No. 1 Wall Clinches 20th Straight Playoff Berth Emphatically

WALL, TX -- The Wall Lady Hawks clinched a playoff spot with an emphatic 80-20 win over TLCA on Friday.

From the tipoff, the Lady Hawks dominated the game. The first quarter ended with the score of 30-1. Jayden Fiebiger had 12 points in the quarter.

The second quarter was no different than the first. Wall’s defense played phenomenal, with the offense moving smoothly and fast to bring the lead at half time to 50-8.

Wall never tried to slow the action or coast to the finish line. They stayed persistent on defense, and Sawyer Lloyd had seven third quarter points. This brought the score to 67-12.

TLCA played the best in the fourth quarter than they did the whole game. They were still out scored 13-8 to put the top-ranked Lady Hawks in the playoffs.

Fiebiger finished with 21 points.

Wall has now made the playoffs in consecutive years dating back to the 1998-99 season.

TLCA (7-14, 1-7) will host Reagan County on Jan. 22.

Central Girls Bounce Back in District with Dominance of Haltom

A week after suffering their first loss of district play, the Central Lady Cats got back on track with a 64-15 drubbing of Fort Worth Haltom Friday.

Central's dominance stemmed from their defense. The Lady Cats held Haltom to just 8-percent shooting from the field. It helps when your team shoots 47.5-percent from the field like Central did Friday night.

The Lady Cats wasted no time in this game either. They jumped out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter.

Central's grip on the game just got tighter in the second quarter, as the Lady Cats exploded to a 34-7 lead entering halftime.

The Lady Cats went on to outscore Haltom 30-8 to close out the game.

Central had a balanced scoring regimen with three players in double figures.

Senior Parris Parmer led the way with 12 points. Layla Young was second with 11 points. Anjelina Humphreys rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10.

Senior Morgan Walker finished the game with four steals and a pair of assists to go with nine points.

Ballinger's Explosive First Quarter Holds off Sonora Comeback

The Ballinger Lady Bearcats had to hold off the Sonora Lady Broncos' comeback attempt for a 38-30 win at home on Friday.

Ballinger did so by holding two of Sonora's three top scorers quiet and hitting six three-pointers.

Ballinger also jumped out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter. That would prove to be a big factor, as they were held to just one point in the second quarter as their lead was halved at 18-13 going to halftime.

The Lady Bearcats brought that lead back to 10 by outscoring Sonora 15-10 in the third quarter.

Sonora was able to outscore Ballinger in the fourth, but at a 7-5 margin, it was not enough.

Explosive Second Quarter Lifts Robert Lee Past Bronte in Coke County Rivalry

The Robert Lee Lady Steers used an extremely explosive second quarter to grab control for a 53-34 win over the Bronte Lady Longhorns in the season's last schedule Coke County Rivalry.

After Bronte trailed by just one point at 8-7 after the first quarter, it looked as though the game had the potential for a Coke County Rivalry Classic. Senior point guard Jayden Speary had all seven of Bronte's points in the first.

However, Robert Lee found another gear and scored 20 points in the second quarter behind Kaylee Puentez's 10 points. The senior had a pair of three-pointers in that frame as Robert Lee jumped out to a 28-14 lead at halftime. Those points came despite a tough press from Bronte that led to a few Robert Lee turnovers.

In the second half, Robert Lee didn't exactly cool off.

Puentez drained another three, Braylee Hood and Julissa Ureno combined for eight points and Robert Lee's defense held Bronte to just eight points as the Lady Steers grew their lead to 41-22 entering the fourth quarter.

Bronte found a slight offensive rhythm in the fourth and was able to temporarily chip away at Robert Lee's lead behind nine points from Kristen Stilley. Yet, Robert Lee matched Bronte's 12 points to close out the game and seal the win.

Puentez finished as the game-high scorer with 19 points. Hood finished with 13 points along with Bronte's Speary.

Robert Lee (18-4, 5-2) will next host district front-runner Veribest on Jan. 22.

Bronte (10-9, 3-5) will travel to Veribest on Jan. 25.
