Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Fires Up the Faithful in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott campaigned in San Angelo Wednesday in front of an energetic crowd at the Concho Pearl Icehouse on S. Chadbourne St.

The Republican Governor leads Democrat Challenger Lupe Valdez by 19.8 percent according to RealClearPolitics.

Abbott told supporters Texas is the greatest state in the nation and now has an economy larger than Canada and Russia.

Abbott has made property tax reform a priority in the upcoming legislative session that begins in January.  Abbott says the Legislature should be statutorily prohibited from imposing any mandates on local political subdivisions that impose additional costs without, at the same time, providing the appropriate funding -- effectively prohibiting future unfunded mandates on political subdivisions. Such a proposal must go hand in hand with a property tax revenue cap because the state should not limit the ability of political subdivisions to raise revenue while at the same time imposing additional fiscal burdens on those same subdivisions.

State Representative Drew Darby of San Angelo campaigned with Abbott and introduced State Senator Charles Perry of Lubbock who represents San Angelo.  Third Court of Appeals Court Judge Scott Field was in San Angelo and also at the campaign stop.  Abbott heartily endorsed Judge Field and Drew Darby for reelection.

Abbott told the crowd that they needed to get every Republican to vote.  "We need high voter turnout for candidates up and down the ballot."  Abbott said Ted Cruz's Democrat opponent Beto O'Rourke doesn't have Texas values.

The latest RealClearPolitics poll has Cruz up 7.2 percent over O'Rourke.  Cruz campaigned to a packed house Tuesday evening at Texas Leadership Academy in San Angelo.

The Governor traveled Wednesday to Midland and then on to El Paso.

Early voting runs 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today through Friday and election day is next Tuesday Nov. 6.
