SAN ANGELO, TX-- Two investigators with the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigations Division had to be treated for injuries Thursday after a "seemingly routine" call escalated to violence.
According to a press release, the investigators saw a suspect, identified as Fidencio Arroyo Lopez, 38, "they knew to have a felony warrant" driving a motor vehicle.
A marked unit was called to stop the vehicle near H-E-B, the release said.
"All was well until CID Investigators attempted to arrest him," the release continued. "An altercation ensued in which both CID Investigators received injuries when the subject attempted to take one CID Investigator's firearm."
The suspect had to be taken by ambulance to Shannon Hospital.
The two investigators are being treated for their injuries, which include "scrapes, bruises and contusions along with blood exposure," per the release.
"This is the perfect example of a seemingly routine call which escalated to a struggle for officers' lives," Sheriff David Jones said.
Additional charges are pending for Lopez.
