EL PASO, TX -- U.S. Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke Monday announced the launch of a college and university tour across the state to discuss his vision for the future of Texas with students, but he’s not visiting Texas Tech University, Angelo State University, or Howard College.
According to a press release, the “Fight for our Future” campus tour continues O’Rourke’s commitment to showing up everywhere, for everyone, every single day, just not here. O’Rourke says his people-powered campaign for the U.S. Senate has already traveled to universities and colleges throughout Texas. He did make a stop at ASU back in April.
O’Rourke says he has held town halls and rallies at dozens of campuses, centered around the issues that are important to young people. O’Rourke will speak to thousands of students at 12 campuses during his week-long tour, starting with an event at Austin Community College.
“It’s young people who are leading the charge to define the future of Texas and the future of our country,” said O’Rourke. “Whether it’s healthcare, climate change, higher education, immigration, justice reform or ensuring everyone is treated with dignity and respect, students are core to this moment and it’s our responsibility to follow their lead, listen to their voices and make their ideas part of this campaign.”

O’Rourke also announced he recorded a live TV ad Sunday. The 30-second spot, entitled “Our Live Ad,” highlights O’Rourke’s commitment to running a positive, inclusive campaign that’s about listening to and learning from Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and non-voters alike in each one of the 254 counties that he’s visited across Texas. The ad will begin airing in markets throughout the state this week.
According to his campaign, the spot was a direct response to the millions of dollars in negative ads being launched by Ted Cruz, his special interests, PACs and Super PACs
Saturday night O’Rourke was in Austin and took the stage again with country music legend Willie Nelson.
The last day to register to vote in the Nov. general election is next Tuesday, Oct. 9. Early voting runs from Oct. 22 to Nov. 2. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
