3 Tom Green County Deputies in Crash Near Big Lake

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Three Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies were injured in a crash near Big Lake Wednesday afternoon, according to the Big Lake Wildcat.

Chief Deputy Dale Pearce escorted an ambulance carrying at least one of the deputies to Shannon just after 5 p.m. According to the Wildcat, the crash happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. and was described as a one-vehicle crash.

Destroyed in the crash was a Tom Green County Ford Explorer Police Interceptor.

According to Pearce, the deputies were returning from the funeral of retired Tom Green County Deputy Jose Luis Ybarra. Ybarra died Saturday at the age of 53. He served 24 years for Tom Green County. His funeral was today in Fort Stockton.

The deputies who were involved in the crash were part of the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.

The Wildcat reported the crash happened west of Big Lake and Reagan County first responders worked the crash scene.

The names of the injured are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. We do not know who was injured or what the conditions of each of the deputies are at the time of this writing (5:40 p.m.).

Sheriff David Jones was busy taking care of his injured men and did not answer our call for comment.
