Police Seek Info on Driver Who Hit A Motorcyclist and Ran

 
FROM SAN ANGELO POLICE PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER: The suspect in yesterday’s Hit & Run crash has been identified. He turned himself in this afternoon. His name is not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation. He is a 24-year-old San Angelo resident. We will send an update as soon as there is more information available. Thank you all for the coverage- we believe it may have motivated him to come forward.

San Angelo Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a hit and run suspect who left a crash scene after injuring a motorcyclist early this morning.

At approximately 7:50 a.m. this morning, the driver of a silver colored, older model Buick passenger car was traveling south on Gunter Street when it ran the stop sign at Avenue Q and collided with a motorcycle that was eastbound in the intersection.  The driver of the Buick did not stop after the collision and was last seen headed eastbound on Avenue R.  Witnesses at the scene told police the suspect was a Hispanic male. 

The 44-year-old driver of the motorcycle was transported to San Angelo Community Medical Center for treatment.  His condition is unknown at this time.

Thanks for pointing out the error. I fixed it and put the map in the story.

I'm not placing blame on anyone and I sincerely hope the motorcycle rider is doing well. This is a 4-way stop, so I find it interesting the motorcycle hit the back right side of the Buick. Perhaps, he could have waited to ensure the Buick came to a complete stop before crossing the intersection? Of course, the motorcycle legally had priority in crossing the intersection, so that's where the Buick failed to yield properly. Just odd...wish we had a camera....
It happened before the 4 way stop. I drove by it when the paramedics were trying to stabilize the rider.
