Healthy Salads (Some Containing Chicken) Coming Soon to San Angelo's Chicken District

SAN ANGELO, TX — A new kind of restaurant is coming soon to the Stadium Park Shopping Center at 2005 Knickerbocker Rd. according to the City of San Angelo’s permits report released earlier this month.

Kevin Kent who heads the group of investors will soon be opening a Tossed.

Tossed is a Boca Raton, Florida-based franchise that serves pre-made and design-it-yourself fresh salads, pitas, melts, wraps, and artisanal sandwiches. The average meal prices are between $8 and $12, according to tossed.com. The franchise is a "Quick Service Restaurant", or QSR, focused on a fresh and healthy menu.

Prior, the location was home to Al’s Formal Wear, which shuttered a while ago.

Shopping centers like Stadium Park are struggling with retail businesses because of the distribution network of the five Walmart locations in San Angelo, and the growing popularity of online retailer Amazon. Replacing retail stores with food service makes sense. Amazon cannot create and ship a salad. At least not yet.

The permit, for $125,000 in new construction, was applied for in May. Tossed states that it takes approximately eight weeks after the permit is approved to open a new location.

Tossed serves many dishes with chicken. This is important, since it will be located in San Angelo’s infamous Chicken District along Knickerbocker Rd. It will be adding, not subtracting, to the phenomenon.

What is more, San Angelo has attracted one of just a few Tossed restaurants yet to open. The startup restaurant only has locations so far in Boca Raton, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boston, and Abu Dhabi, according to the Tossed.com website. Add San Angelo to the list and we're in great company!

Partnering with Tossed will allow Kent to adopt the concept to the San Angelo market. It's a new franchise opportunity, and Kent said he hopes that the initial foray into the San Angelo market will be successful and will lead to additional locations in other cities.

Here are the other new things coming soon to San Angelo, as published in the City of San Angelo's permits and inspections report for May 2018.

It's ironic how often I hear people lamenting the lack of small business' or that they're gone or going. Yet there it is, "...the five Walmart locations in San Angelo..."

And if Walmart wants to bring in yet another one, the city will slobber all over itself making it happen. Change street layouts. Add traffic lights. All if the name of the God Walmart.

I am so EXCITED San Angelo is finally getting a place like this! It gave me an opposite feeling than hearing about the usual types of eateries wanting to open up. People will definitely feel better if they can just get the nutrition into their bodies. Great News For Sure!!
