SAN ANGELO, TX -- The latest results from the SAISD bond election leave the result in limbo; It's simply too close to call. The latest results show 3,044 votes for and 3,041 votes against; a three vote margin! There are 33 under votes, or votes cast neither for nor against the bond. While we don't know the official count yet, there are 30 to 40 provisional ballots still to be counted according to elections officials late Saturday. This may be the closest bond election vote in the history of the San Angelo ISD. Results will not become official until they are canvassed at a school board meeting on May 14.
The Grape Creek ISD bond passed by a comfortable margin and the Christoval Bond election failed by 2 percentage points.
SAN ANGELO, TX -- Early voting totals released by the Tom Green County Elections office show a slim majority of San Angelo ISD voters approve the $150 million bond 52 percent to 48 percent or 1,356 to 1,246 in early votes cast.
In the Grape Creek ISD bond election, 71 percent were for the bond, and 29 percent were against it.
In Christoval, 48 percent voted to approve the bond and 52 percent voted to oppose it.

Trustees in the San Angelo Independent School District will have $149 million to spend on new facilities and renovations as fewer than 8 percent of registered voters cast ballots in today's bond election. Unofficially, 2,189 or 53.23 percent voted for the bond while 1,923 or 46.77 percent voted against the measure.
In Grape Creek, their bond passed by 62 percent to 38 percent.
The only bond proposal that failed was in the Christoval ISD. The bond there failed 53 percent to 47 percent.
Voter turnout was less than 10 percent in all three bond elections. We will update this story as new and significant information becomes available.

PermalinkWhy the wait? Is the vote required to be certified during a regularly scheduled meeting? This is really close...(is there a box 13 somewhere?) Is this going to be challenged?? Is the school board in a little hot water?(sure a bunch of no votes!) Inquiring minds want to know!

PermalinkWould be nice to see the bond proposal fail, aside from my opinion on that, I think that the great disgrace in this entire process is that only 10% of all the registered voters came out to participate... That's sad. What did you register to vote for if you're not going to go out and vote? It seems that people are disinterested in being truly involved with their communities. I've actually heard people who believe that voting doesn't matter anyway, somehow the conspiracy theories permeate into the voting realm too... If even 70% of all voters registered went and participated, there would be an overwhelming swing to one side or the other I'm sure... I guess I should be happy that disengaged folk have kept their votes to themselves, in reality, we probably don't want people voting if they don't care about the process anyhow. With important midterm congressional elections fast approaching, I'm almost scared to see what people will choose to do with America. Many I've spoken with have only a basic understanding of what's going on... Most seem to be supporting or opposing folks based on the opinion of others or media. So sad. I do have to agree with some of you. There are a few ignorant folks that behave as Sheople instead of informed, free men and women.
