Firehouse Subs' Grand Opening is Today

SAN ANGELO, TX — Brett Fulkerson and his dad Chad are in San Angelo’s Firehouse Subs franchise together. And it officially opens Monday at 10:30 a.m.

Brett said after staff training Sunday, they opened briefly after 5 p.m. and the word spread quickly they were open. But today is the day.

Against the back wall, behind the long counter where customer orders subs sites an armada of sandwich “steamers” ready for action. Brett’s team was seen at 8 a.m. making the last minute preparations.

What is Brett’s favorite sub? All of them, of course. But if he had to pick, it’s the signature sub called the “Hook & Ladder.” This sandwich has smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, and melted Monterey Jack, served Fully Involved.

What is “Fully involved”? “Loaded complete with mayo, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a kosher dill pickle on the side,” according to their website.

There are 1100 franchise locations nationwide, and San Angelo’s own Firehouse Subs is located at 5789 Sherwood Way. “Down there near The Grill” is how folks are describing the location.

Looks to me like it is probably just another Which-Witch where you pay 3 times over what a simple sandwich should cost........ Just one more location that will come and go that I will never try....... Probably would be fun to start a pot to see which will be the first to lock the doors and take their signs down, either this one or the Jimmy Jones or whatever it's called right across the road, both basically in the middle of nowhere........

I couldn't agree more Doc..... I never thought I'd see the day that a small sandwich, small soda and a tiny bag of chips would cost 10 or more bucks. Add a small cup of soup and pay $15+.....what a deal!! I am, however, a big fan of Sam's Club's Nathans hot dog and soda for only $1.50.

I have had several Firehouse Subs in other cities and they are great. There is no comparison between them and the other sandwich places, especially Jimmy Johns. Their salads are great too; very fresh and the Hook and Ladder salad is loaded with meats and cheese. If you round up the amount you spend to the nearest dollar that amount is donated to Firefighters......and NO....I don't have a financial or personal affiliation with Firehouse Subs!

Can't beat these sandwiches. You might have noticed it's not 1948 any more and you get what you pay for. I'm OK if you never cross their threshold, but I assure you, it'll be your loss!!!

Are really so tiresome. Really, have you nothing better to do?

I will def mention this to my husband. San Angelo, imo, needs a greater variety of places to eat...

Since my execution is apropos for merely stating an opinion concerning the absurd price of sandwiches, I have either entered a First Amendment free zone, or.... I just discovered a snowflake in West Texas in late March.

Sheylan, If you attempt to leave town everyone knows the world ends at the Tom Green county line. Joe Hyde will not report on this, people that leave never return, proves the world ends 9.1 miles from downtown.

YOU don’t know much because if you go 9.1 miles in any direction, you are still in TGC
