San Angelo Bobcats Lead Midland Lee Rebels to Their Appomattox

SAN ANGELO, TX—The Central Bobcats defeated the Midland Lee Rebels 52-28 on Friday night at San Angelo Stadium.

Avoiding a slow start was the focus for the Bobcats heading into the game. The San Angelo Central Bobcats also had to stop the three-headed running attack coming from Lee. The Bobcats accomplished both.

“It was really big for us,” said Senior Wide Receiver Henry Teeter. “The last couple of weeks we haven’t started quite like we wanted to and this week, we did.”

The win was a big step for Central on their path to a fifth-straight district title.

“When you jump out 28-zip and put a team like [Midland] Lee behind the eight-ball, it’s big,” said Central Head Coach Brent Davis.

Central scored on three of their first four drives in the first quarter to make the score 21-0.

Senior Running Back Austin Barron opened the scoring with a 38-yard touchdown run at the 8:32 mark in the first quarter. Barron left the game with an injury after that touchdown run.  Coach Davis said he feels Barron’s injury may sideline the Bobcat’s main running back for a couple of weeks at the least, but didn’t share the extent of the injury.

The Bobcat’s second drive stalled out around their own 47-yardline as Junior Quarterback Maverick McIvor dropped into punt formation.

The ensuing kick was muffed at the Rebel’s 10-yardline and recovered by the Bobcats. On the next play from scrimmage, McIvor found Jackson Timme in the endzone to make the score 14-0 with 5:46 left in the first quarter.

Central’s defense was the star in the first period, forcing Lee into three 3-and-out situations and holding the Rebels to just 17 yards of total offense in the first quarter.

On the fourth play of the fourth Central drive, McIvor and Teeter linked up for a 27-yard touchdown pass to put Central on top 21-0.

The Bobcats scored 35 unanswered points in the first half before the Rebels found paydirt.

After a one-yard touchdown run by McIvor, the first half scoring concluded at 42-14 in favor of Central.

Out of the break, Central picked up right where they left off with another McIvor touchdown pass after marching 75 yards downfield in a minute-and-a-half to push the score to 49-14.

Lee answered with a 19-yard touchdown run and 11-yard touchdown pass by their Quarterback Colby Standard.

Central lightened up on the reins, scoring just a 33-yard field goal by Gage Smith in the fourth quarter.

Later, in Central’s redzone, Lee had an opportunity to convert on fourth down. But Standard’s pass was picked off by the Bobcats with 1:12 left in the game. Central kneeled and let the clock run out to move to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in district play.

McIvor finished the game 20 for 28 passing with one interception and 201 passing yards, 80 yards rushing yards, and six total touchdowns on the night.  Henry Teeter eclipsed the century mark with 102 yards on seven catches with four touchdowns. The Bobcat defense held the typically strong Midland Lee offense to just 284 total yards the entire night.

And understandably, there's not even a mention of Lake View in any of these articles..... All members of the team should have at least been given a participation trophy for riding all the way to Lubbock just to get emasculated and sent home with their tails tucked under their legs once again.........

You're just a grumpy OLD P.O.S. what kind of grown person talks so much garbage about children?!? I'll give it out my name, number, and address if you wanna come "discuss" your issues with these kids; as well as anyone else that wants to keep disrespecting kids for playing a GAME!! I'm assuming you're a union worker or retired based on your numerous posts on here; you feel you're owed something or that you've done enough to deserve something........you're NOBODY any by bad mouthing children on a weekly basis, it proves you're garbage!

Mr. Hyde:

I respectfully request you ban Doctor Ding Bat from this site. His comments regarding the Lake View football program are hateful and serve no constructive purpose whatsoever. They reflect some deeply held psychological flaw that drives him to humiliate kids that are doing their best to perform in a game that they love. He does harm and no good.

There is something very, very wrong with him. He has no place here.

I agree with you! Someone get Dr. Dumbass off this site. His life is so boring and sad that he has nothing better to do than to insult kids.

Win or Lose, the most important thing is that the kids had fun and EXERCISE..........There is a childhood obesity epidemic in America. Thirty percent of patients pediatricians see are obese, 10 percent morbidly obese, and many will remain so throughout life. Playing football is EXERCISE. I do not care who "won or lost". At least they are not home on the couch playing video games. Being overweight is a major contributing factor to diabetes, heart disease and stroke, cancer, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, asthma, and more such as self esteem and depression. Lake View should not get rid of football. San Angelo ISD should encourage more physical exercise begining in Pre-K through 12th grade. Yes, the 12th grade and even if schools have a losing season. Central High once lost every game they played from preseason to regular season back in the 80's. All students need to have physical exercise. Should continue throughout one's life time. Just look at the obesity rates. The obesity/overweight rate is now over 78 percents of Americans. No wonder Health Costs are up. I am for any one who plays sports and PE.

...it's no worse than Fowler putting the Central wins against Shoemaker and Odessa in the "bad" category, wonder if he'll do that with the win against Lee, probably spin the win into, "Central not really challenged, Lee was a paper undefeated team, not quite the test they needed to get ready for Permian"
