Two Pedestrians Struck, Injured in Wednesday Crashes

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Two San Angelo men were hospitalized following two separate vehicle crashes involving pedestrians, yesterday.

A 56-year-old San Angelo man underwent emergency surgery after he was struck by a 2014 Ford F-350 Super Duty Pickup truck in the Shannon Clinic Magdalen parking lot located at 102 North Magdalen Street just before 2:15 p.m.  The victim, an employee of Scherz Landscaping Company, was working at the location when the truck entered the parking lot at a high rate of speed and struck the man before it crashed into a brick-covered pillar that supports the clinic’s covered entrance.   The victim suffered incapacitating injuries and is said to be in critical yet stable condition.  The driver was not injured.

The pickup truck’s driver, a 70-year-old San Angelo man, told reporting Officers his vehicle experienced a mechanical issue just prior to the crash.  This crash is still under investigation.

In another crash across town, a 21-year-old San Angelo man’s injuries were initially assessed at San Angelo Community Medical Center and subsequently treated at Shannon Medical Center after he was struck by a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe in the 4400 block of Knickerbocker Road near the West Loop 306 frontage road around 8:45 p.m.  Witnesses stated the pedestrian appeared to be on his cell phone as he walked westbound across Knickerbocker into vehicle traffic.

Investigators with the Department’s Traffic Section listed the pedestrian’s failure to yield the right of way to vehicle traffic as the primary contributing factor to the crash and under the influence of unknown intoxicant as a possible contributing factor.

The Tahoe’s driver, 27, and passenger, 21, were not injured.  No citations were issued.

Excuse me all of you who are being critical of WHAT you call elderly person. Instead you rake this person over the coals. So compassion instead of venom. Not everyone over 65 should give up driving. COMPASSION AND PRAYERS FOR ALL?
