Koenig came to the San Angelo Chamber in August of 2016 after the sudden death of long time Chamber President Phil Neighbors in February 2016.
“It’s an opportunity I could not say no to,” Koenig said. “The position feels like the right fit for my experience, background and passion for community development. It’s also a rare chance to practice the work I love, in a City I’m familiar with and be closer to family, since both my wife and I grew up in neighboring Omaha and have family in the area.”
Council Bluffs, population 65,000, sits on the Iowa side of the Missouri River just across from Omaha, Nebraska. The combined population of the Omaha Metro Statistical Area is about 950,000. The Council Bluffs Chamber has approximately 800 members and offers programs and services similar to those at the San Angelo Chamber.
Koenig previously served as Executive Vice President for the Council Bluffs Area Chamber from 1989 to 1993 and worked for the Council Bluffs daily newspaper from 1983 to 1989. In addition to the San Angelo Chamber, Koenig has served as President and CEO of the Overland Park, Kansas Chamber and the Bellevue, Nebraska Chamber of Commerce.
“Dan’s done a great job for Chamber, added a lot of value and we are disappointed to see him go,” said Chamber Board of Directors Chair Chuck Shore. “But at the same time, I’m very happy for Dan and his family knowing he gets the opportunity to be closer to family and do the work he loves.”
“I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to serve the San Angelo Chamber,” Koenig said. “San Angelo is a beautiful community and the leadership here is great to work with and we will miss the many wonderful relationships we’ve been fortunate to establish.”
Shore said the Chamber’s Board will be meeting this week to begin discussing the process to secure a new president and he anticipates a search committee will soon to begin discussing the process to secure a new president.

I don't care who runs against these guys, they have my vote and support. Even if the increase is necessary, how arrogant can you be to vote yourself a raise at the same time. DUMB.
