A close family member of 42-year-old Charles D. Welborn has confirmed his death as of approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Welborn was shot three times on Monday after having stolen a rifle at the north side Walmart, where he also claimed to have a bomb.
When police arrived, Welborn did not comply with orders to get on the ground and show his hands, and charged police with a broken bottle, according to police. Three shots were fired on Welborn, who then received first aid from officers until SAFD medics arrived on scene and transported the man to Shannon Medical Center.
Acoording to the family member, Welborn underwent multiple surgeries, but died a day after the incident in hospital.
Local law enforcement have confirmed his death.
Welborn was transported from Shannon Medical Center to Lubbock, Texas for Autopsy.
The investigation has been turned over to the Texas Rangers.
